Google to Build Undersea Cable Firmina to Connect Latin America and the US

Alphabet’s Google stated on Wednesday it was constructing an undersea cable that may join america, Brazil, Uruguay, and Argentina, to bolster Web connection capability between these areas.

The cable, referred to as Firmina, would be the longest cable on the earth, Google stated in a blog post, including that it’ll run from the East Coast of america to Las Toninas, Argentina, with further landings in Praia Grande, Brazil, and Punta del Este, Uruguay.

“Firmina will enhance entry to Google providers for customers in South America. With 12 fibre¬†pairs, the cable will carry site visitors shortly and securely between North and South America, giving customers quick, low-latency entry to Google merchandise equivalent to Search, Gmail, and YouTube, in addition to Google Cloud providers,” Google stated.

The announcement additionally comes amid a surge in demand for Web and cloud providers because the COVID-19 pandemic has pushed extra work, purchasing and leisure on-line.
