Former India cricketer Deep Dasgupta sounded very pleased with Chennai Super Kings’s performance in the IPL Auction 2021 in Chennai on Thursday. CSK bought
CSK bought 6 players in the open auction with Moeen Ali (Rs 7 crores), Krishnappa Gowtham (Rs 9.25 crore), Cheteshwar Pujara (Rs 50 lakhs), Harishankar Reddy (Rs 20 lakhs), K Bhagath Varma (Rs 20 lakhs), Hari Nishanth (Rs 20 lakhs).
The three-time IPL champions had earlier retained 18 players and released 6 before the auction. CSK had also snapped up batsman Robin Uthappa from Rajasthan Royals during the trading window in January.
“I think they did very well, because what they also did was to get Robin Uthappa during the trading window. So now if you look at they’re playing XI, that is set.
“They have Uthappa and Ruturaj Gaikwad to open, Suresh Raina is back so he’ll bat at No. 3 and Ambati Rayudu at No. 4. MSD at 5 and then you always have Faf du Plessis to bat there as well. They have Sam Curran, Ravindra Jadeja, Dwayne Bravo and then they picked up the 2 names – Moeen Ali and K Gowtham. And Moeen is someone who can bat at any position from 1 to 6.
“I think they have done really well. Their bowling unit was settled, they have all those options like Lungi Ngidi and Shardul Thakur. And they also have Cheteshwar Pujara, who might not start but will play in the top 3 if one of them don’t fire. CSK don’t change their playing XI that much so I think it’s kind of set,” Dasgupta told Sports Today.
CSK became the first team to buy Cheteshwar Pujara since 2014 and spent Rs 9.25 crore on Gowtham, 7 crore on Moeen, 50 lakhs on Pujara, and 20 lakhs each on the uncapped 3 Indian players.
