The Congress is ready to give a shock to the BJP in Karnataka. Chikkaballapura MP Bachchegouda’s son Sarath is all set to join the Congress. In the Karnataka by-election last November, he contested as an independent candidate from Sarath Hoskote and won as an MLA. Sarath himself told the media on Thursday that he was joining the Congress. Meanwhile, Sarath has been in talks with party leaders for the past four-and-a-half months to join the Congress. He recently held talks with Karnataka PCP president DK Sivakumar. Sarath is almost certain to join the Congress by the end of this month. Opposition groups called for a boycott of the assembly in protest of the speaker’s refusal to allow him to speak on the issue. With this, there was talk that he would join the Congress behind the support for Sarath. Meanwhile, Sarath, who contested for the BJP in the 2018 Karnataka Assembly elections, was defeated by Congress candidate MTB Nagraj. However, Nagraj was also one of the 17 MLAs who caused the collapse of the coalition government in Karnataka. MBT Nagraj, who was a minister in the Congress-JDS coalition government, resigned from the cabinet following the aftermath and resigned as an MLA. The BJP later joined Gooty. He contested as a BJP candidate from Hoskote in the November 2020 by-elections. However, frustrated with his BJP ticket, Sarath Bachchegoud contested as an Independent and won. After that, MTB Nagraj was given the opportunity to become an MLC and a BJP minister was appointed. In this context, Sarath agreed to join the Congress party. There are allegations that BJP MP Bachchegouda is also not actively involved in party activities.
