What is the case?
It is known that the #MeToo movement gained momentum in 2018. Many women have come forward claiming that they have been sexually harassed in the past because of this movement. In this context, in October 2018, about 20 women journalists made allegations of sexual harassment against former Union Minister MJ Akbar. They allege he was sexually harassed while working as an editor for a magazine. The youngest of them all was the first to take his name out. Ramani retweeted an article she had previously written on October 8, 2018, in which she revealed that the person who had mentioned her as a perpetrator was MJ Akbar. She said he had been rude to her both inside and outside the newsroom. MJ Akbar resigned from his post on October 17, 2018 due to these allegations. He has filed a defamation suit against Priya Ramani saying that he will personally fight the allegations against him. The court recently acquitted Priya Ramani.
