Mumbai: Robbers cut electricity supply to jewellery shop, run away with goods worth Rs 2.82 crore

In a crime straight out of a Bollywood movie, a group of unidentified men cut off wires from an electric pole so that nobody could see them and robbed ornaments worth Rs 2.82 crore from a jewellery shop in Mumbai.

In a crime straight out of a Bollywood movie, a group of unidentified men cut off wires from an electric pole so that the nobody could see them and robbed ornaments worth Rs 2.82 crore from a jewellery shop in Mumbai.

According to officials, 5.05 kg of gold and 9 kgs of silver jewellery was stolen from Mangal Jewellers in Kalachowki area.

“Nobody could spot the accused as the accused cut the wires of the electric pole next to the jewellery shop. We checked the electric box of the pole, all wires were cut,” said senior police inspector Gulabsingh Patil.

On scrutiny of CCTV footage, the police found that the burglars also decamped with the digital video recorder (DVR) of CCTV cameras in the shop, leaving no trace behind.

Patil said, “In the morning, walkers found the shutter of the Mangal jewellers open. Inside the lights were off. Others informed the jewellery shop owner. The owner immediately reached the shop and was shocked to find most of the jewellery missing.”

Following the incident, four teams of local police along with the Mumbai crime branch are conducting investigations in the matter.
