Capt Satish Sharma, 73, a senior Congress leader and former Union minister, was laid to rest in Delhi on Friday. A former Union minister who had been suffering from cancer for some time was reported missing in Goa on Wednesday. Several leaders mourned his death. Satish Sharma was born on October 11, 1947 in Secunderabad to the Gandhi family, especially former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. Amethi has been elected to the Lok Sabha three times from Rae Bareli. He also served as a member of the Rajya Sabha. From 1993 to 1996, he was the Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas in the PV Narasimha Rao Cabinet. Satish Sharma has a wife, a son and a daughter.

Captain Satish Sharma, who entered politics with Rajiv’s encouragement, was first appointed a member of the Rajya Sabha in 1986. Rajiv was elected to the Lok Sabha from Amethi in 1991 after his death. She befriended Rajiv Gandhi while he was a pilot for Indian Airlines. Although Rajiv entered politics after the death of Sanjay Gandhi, Captain Satish Sharma remained in the pilot’s job.
