Netflix’s first Telugu anthology, Pitta Kathalu, released today (February 19) amid huge expectations. Actress Samantha Akkineni took to Instagram to shower praises on the anthology, especially Nandini Reddy’s segment, which features Amala Paul in the lead role. The anthology has been garnering good response from both critics and audiences alike.
Pitta Kathalu consists of four stories directed by Tharun Bhascker, BV Nandini Reddy, Nag Ashwin and Sankalp Reddy. It is jointly produced by Ronnie Screwvala’s RSVP Movies and Ashi Dua Sara’s Flying Unicorn Entertainment.
Samantha, on Friday, took to Instagram to appreciate director Nandini Reddy for coming up with an interesting story on lust, rage and betrayal. She also heaped praises on Amala Paul for her performance as Meera. Samantha wrote, “So proud of you @nandureddyy.. I know you were super scared to take the plunge .. to do something so far beyond your comfort zone.. but I am so so glad that you did .. you nailed this one..who would have thunk it ..lust, rage and betrayal could be your new thing and @rip_aparte you killed it Fab performances @amalapaul and @iamjaggubhai_ (sic).”
Here’s the post:
Nandini Reddy, who had earlier worked with Samantha in Oh Baby, replied to her post saying, “Was super nervous what u would say ….. now breathing thank you amma (sic).”
IndiaToday.in reviewer Logesh Balachandran rated the film 3 out of 5 stars and wrote, “Amala Paul’s Meera begins as a usual women-centric film featuring two characters – an abusive husband and a submissive wife. But then, as the film progresses, we get to see the darker side of their relationship and the power dynamics between the two. What’s more fascinating is that all the segments are women-centric and they revolve around the challenges they face while navigating complicated relationships. Tharun Bhascker, BV Nandini Reddy, Nag Ashwin, and Sankalp Reddy have penned refreshing tales breaking stereotypes and paved the way for a new-age cinema.”
The anthology also features Shruti Haasan, Saanve Megghana, Sanjith Hegde, Lakshmi Manchu and Eesha Rebba in important roles.
