Gnocchi are a variety of pasta that can be made from ingredients like egg, potato, semolina, flour, etc. They have a soft and plump texture and can be paired with a variety of dishes like soups, salads, etc.
They have a delicate and mild flavour and are thus, perfect to be mixed with sauces. Though they do feel fancy, they aren’t all that difficult to prepare. They can be made at home in just 5 simple steps. So here is a simple recipe to make delicious and pillow-like soft potato gnocchi at home in a jiffy.
Boil 500 grams of potatoes in salted water. Cook them for 10 minutes till they turn soft. Once cooked, peel the potatoes while they are hot.
Use a potato ricer to mash the boiled potatoes. To properly mash them and ensure a soft and plump texture, push them through the potato ricer at least 3 times.
Beat 2 eggs in a bowl. Combine the mashed potatoes with the eggs. Add 100 grams of flour into the bowl. Mix all of it together to prepare a soft and bouncy dough.
Make sure that the dough is soft. If it feels sticky, you can add some more flour to make it bouncy and plump. Sprinkle some flour on your kitchen counter to avoid the dough from sticking and start making thick cylindrical snake-like shapes from the dough. Then cut the dough into half-inch pieces.
Boil some water in a pot and add a pinch of salt to it. Carefully drop the gnocchi in the water and cook for 2 minutes till it starts to float. Strain the gnocchi and serve.
