Your Honor: This is not the US Supreme Court .. Do not address it as Your Honor: CJI reference to Law Student! – not us supreme court: apex court judges on being called your honor

  • Law student addressing judges as Your Honor.
  • The tribunal objected that this was not the Supreme Court of the United States.
  • Indication that the term should be used only in the Magisterial Court.

The Supreme Court has objected to the law student judges attending a case being referred to as ‘Your Honor’. The CJI Justice SA Bobde Tribunal ruled that judges should not be referred to as ‘Your Honor’ because it is not the Supreme Court of the United States. The bench comprising Justice SA Babde, Justice SA Bopanna and Justice V Ramasubramanian said, “It seems that you are calling us ‘Your Honor’ in view of the US Supreme Court.”

The law student immediately apologized with the tribunal warnings. He then addressed them as ‘Your Lordship’. The tribunal responded by saying that the Chief Justice should not use inappropriate language anyway. Judges in the U.S. Supreme Court and the Magistrates’ Court here may be referred to as’ Your Honor ‘but not in the Supreme Court of India.

The tribunal questioned the law student who was present in person as to what your case was. On this occasion he appealed to the judiciary to strengthen the infrastructure under its jurisdiction. The tribunal responded to this .. Did you know that this matter is already pending before the Supreme Court? Asked. It said the Supreme Court had issued directions to strengthen the judiciary infrastructure in phases.

The law student commented that it seems that no homework was done before you came to court on this issue. Malik Mazar Sultan said that in the UPSC case, the Center had issued directions to various state governments and high courts to strengthen the judiciary infrastructure, which is currently pending. The court then adjourned the case for four weeks and directed it to be fully prepared by the time of the next hearing.
